01. Test Drive Meme

TEST DRIVE MEME

Thinking about joining Iterum? Unsure of who to bring or if they'll even fit the setting? Posting here offers you the chance to find out how they'll do while getting the sample for done for their application.

→ Comment down below with the character you'd like to test drive in the setting. Don't forget to add their name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario or create your own, and tag around!
→ Test drives will be posted regularly in the months of March, June, September, and December.
→ Threads in the test drive are NOT eligible to use for activity checks, however, you can make them game canon if you wish and both you and your scene partner agree.

Possible Scenarios
Please note that all characters will initially arrive in their assigned housing; they are free to explore the City to their heart's content after that!

01. Arriving: You're pretty sure you knew where you were before you closed your eyes. But somewhere between then and now, you discover that you're definitely not there. In fact, the setting is so unfamiliar to you that it's bordering on unnerving and questions start to stack. Have you been abducted? Did you get drunk and pass out somewhere and not remember? Whatever the case, you need some answers. Or maybe this is familiar and the only thing that doesn't make sense is the layer of dust on everything around you which obviously means some time has passed. How much? No one seems to know. What you do know is that sitting around and waiting for answers is likely not going to happen.

So, you set out and hope to run into someone in the City that looks like they may be in a similar situation. Or, at the very least a person that might be able to provide some explanation. Veteran Chosen, make sure you warn the new people about the Shadows and advise them to steer clear of dark alleys and things that go bump in the night.

02. Party, party!: Now that you've arrived and hopefully settled, it's time to unwind. Inside your welcome basket is an invitation from the Duchess, who has decided to celebrate the growing population of the City with a massive "Welcome to the City" party in the Tower District. Wine spills free, and drugs abound, this is the kinda party that caters to all! The wicked and debauched demons and the good and decent who, if not careful, might end up tainted and corrupted at some point, like everyone else. Even if it's only for one night, why not cut loose and forget about whatever is pressing on your mind?

Nothing to wear? Check your closet, we're sure you'll find something suitable to wear.

03. Prominence: Everyone knows that the City sometimes influences its population on a monthly basis. Unfortunately, you arrived right in the middle of a heavy Prominence. Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, or Pride: choose your sin and get wicked. You'll find it's hard to avoid being sinful, almost as if your basic instincts are taking over.

04. Run!: A lot can go wrong in the City; demon attacks, muggings or there's even danger of being plucked from the streets and forced to partake in the Coliseum's version of Fight Club (if you know, you know). There are plenty of unsavoury types that all Chosen must be aware of. They rule the night, and once the sun goes down it becomes the Sinning Hour. Demons and monsters and humans capable of inciting just as much fear, if not more, come out to play. Mind yourself. It's hardly a tea party out there.

05. Network: Broadcast a video, voice or text message to anyone in your phone's directory. All Chosen have a device that they can use to communicate. Those that are returning will find their phone as it was, though without any contact that was previously in the City that is not currently. For the newly Chosen, a device will be supplied in your welcome basket and will match the type of telecommunications that was being used at the time of their exit.

06. Wild Card: Choose your own adventure in the game's multiple settings!

"Wh--" That is not the response he was expecting. Not from his brother. Certainly not from a Death Eater. It takes him so much by surprise that he doesn't have time to pull away before Regulus is giving him a sloppy hug. (Which reminds him of when they were children, back before he'd gone to Hogwarts and they'd grown apart, back when things had been good between them. When Regulus would give him sloppy hugs and he wouldn't care.)

The shock keeps him from reacting right away, and while he doesn't return the hug, he doesn't push Regulus away from him either. He just stands there, arms at his side, rather impatiently. "What are you doing?"

“Oh, don’t be like that,” Regulus said, pulling back. For a brief moment hurt flashed on his face but then it vanished as he caught sight of a tray of drinks passing by and he grabbed something that was filled with blue liquid.

Everything about Regulus probably seemed strange and aberrant. The golden child, the purist son so eager to carry on the family ideology getting utterly wasted amongst muggles

The perfect purist son. Except, Regulus had found out how his parents’ ideology had limits, lines they wouldn’t cross, but only too late. They had been so proud of his early devotion to Lord Voldemort, until- Until they finally opened their eyes to the extremes Voldemort was going to and then they were not so proud that Regulus was part of his select few.

And then he wasn't so much the perfect son. It had all gone wrong.

Regulus did not want to think about that, not any of it. Not now. Could he stay like this forever and never think about it again?

“It’s a party, no one cares! I don’t care. I don’t care.” He let that settle for a moment as he took a drink from his cup, hoping Sirius would get what he meant without him having to spell it out. “You shouldn’t care.”

"I wasn't asking about that." It's a party, and his brother is actually having fun for once. It's not like he's going to judge Regulus for being here and partying with Muggles when he's doing it himself. He's surprised that the golden child is doing it, of course, but he's been here long enough to know that the rules don't apply anymore.

He steps backward and lifts up his hands to slide his shoulders out of Regulus' grasp. "Why are you touching me?"

But Regulus was answering all of it. Because all of the problems Regulus should be having with Sirius were wrapped up in all of problems the heretofore perfect purist son of the Black family should be having with anything non-purist conforming.

Their mother fought with Sirius over so many things, but his blood-traitorous leanings certainly topping the list. Sirius had always been so flagrantly rebellious and Regulus never understood why (until, perhaps, the days leading up to the cave, but that realization was only an infant of a thought).

Then, from Regulus' point of view, because of said blood-traitorous leanings, Sirius left their home at sixteen and ran to the Potters (known blood-traitors). And in response, their mother burned his name off the tree and cut him off. Then Sirius joined the Order - so very bloody blood-traitorous.

There wasn't a way for Regulus to separate Sirius from the ideology of blood-traitors - or non-purists, if one preferred a less incendiary label - and that made Sirius part of the whole problem.

The whole problem that Regulus currently refusing to have.

"We're brothers, you prat." But Regulus stepped back. "And I thought I'd never see you again."

"I thought the same thing." He seems less sentimental about it than Regulus is. He'd had someone to fill the role of brother, after all, after he'd been tossed out of his family. Someone he'd gotten along with better than his actual brother. "This place must be a nightmare for you."

"I said I don't care," Regulus shot back, a smidgeon of irritation at having to repeat himself and because he didn’t want to talk about real nightmares. Because he didn’t even have to close his eyes to feel the inferis’ hand pulling him under water, pulling him apart, or the horror of the effects of that potion trapping the horcrux.

To keep the terrible thoughts at bay, Regulus down the rest of his drink.

“One would think you’d be happier about it.”

Of course he doesn't know what real reason Regulus would have for experiencing actual nightmares. All he knows is the sort of thing that Regulus hates. And what causes him real nightmares, thanks to Death Eaters.

Death Eaters like Regulus.

"Happier about what?"

Over the last two years of Regulus' life, he'd thought from time to time what would happen if he sought out his brother for help. Would it have made a difference?

Regulus was unsure if the answer was standing before him or not.

He pushed back at reality, and didn't let it in.

"Fine, be an arse," he said. "I've got a party to enjoy." And he turned in search of another passing tray of drinks to grab from.

Fine, what does he care? He didn't want to talk to Regulus anyway. Though it has put a damper on the evening to know that his brother is here somewhere.

Oh well. He'll just turn away himself and look for his own refreshments.
